Futures in Health Summer School

Interested in a career in healthcare? Want to make a difference to people's lives?

We are excited to announce the launch of a new summer school programme, running from Tuesday 18th - Thursday 20th July 2023, aimed at aspiring healthcare professionals. This programme is suitable for Year 12 / first-year college students interested in a career in healthcare.

This event will focus on giving you an insight into the different health and social care professions you can study at the University of Leeds, which includes:

  • Adult Nursing, Child Nursing and Mental Health Nursing
  • Social Work
  • Midwifery
  • Audiology
  • Cardiac Physiology
  • Diagnostic Radiography
  • Medical Ultrasound

Please note that this programme is not suitable for students interested in studying Medicine or Dentistry at University.

What are the Eligibility Criteria?

To be eligible for our Futures in Health Summer School, you must:

  • Be a student in Year 12 / first year of college
  • Be studying a BTEC, CTEC, or CACHE qualification in Applied Science, Health and Social Care or Medical Sciences, either on its own or alongside A Levels
  • Have achieved at least five GCSE's at a Grade 4 or above (including English, Mathematics, and Science)
  • Be interested in studying healthcare at University
  • Have permission from your parent, carer, or key worker to take part
  • Be able to attend the entirety of the summer school, Tuesday 18th July - Thursday 20th July 2023

We may also shortlist based on the following criteria:

  • You're from a household with an annual income of £25,000 or below OR in receipt of 16-19 Bursary Fund with an income threshold of £25,000 OR in receipt of free school meals during your GCSE or post-16 studies.
  • Your parents did not go to university.
  • You attend a school achieving below the national average at GCSE (Attainment 8 score).
  • Your studies have been disrupted by circumstances in your personal, social or domestic life. (Except in extreme circumstances, disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic will not be considered, please see our Access to Leeds application guidelines for further information).
  • You live in an area with low progression to higher education (use our online Access to Leeds postcode checker).
  • You are care experienced (this could include public or kinship care).
