Accessing Our Online Workshops
Accessing the Session
We're excited to welcome you to one of our upcoming online workshops, taster sessions or summer schools. The following instructions will help you in joining the session and taking part in any interactive elements:
- To access the session, we recommend you use a PC or Laptop to watch the session alongside a mobile device, such as a smartphone or tablet, to take part in the interactive elements, such as polls, quizzes and Q&A's. Don't worry if this isn't possible for you. You will still be able to watch the session using one of these devices.
- If using a PC or Laptop, we recommend using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox as your web browser. Unfortunately, the system we are using (Collaborate Ultra) does not support Internet Explorer.
Following the Joining Instructions
Prior to each session, you will be sent a link that you will need to follow in order to join the session. We recommend that you follow the link 5 minutes before the session is due to start, just to make sure you have no problems accessing our online platform.
When joining the session:
- When prompted, please make sure you give the session access to your microphone. You won't be using your microphone or webcam for any of our workshop sessions, however if you don't give it access, sometimes the audio function doesn't work and you won't be able to hear the presenter.
- You will then be prompted to test your microphone and camera. Don't worry about this, as you won't be using them during the session.
- Make sure your speakers are turned up so that you can hear the presenters nice and clearly. We recommend you use headphones if you have them.
If you do have any issues being able to hear us:
- Check your headphones / speakers are plugged in and turned up
- If this doesn't fix the issues, leave the session and rejoin, as sometimes this fixes the issue.
Contributing to the Session
Once you have joined the session, a code will appear on the screen giving you instructions to access Mentimeter, allowing you to interact with the session and ask questions. You will need to go to menti.com in a different tab (see image below), or on a different device, and enter the code on the screen. This will then allow you, at specific times, to take part in polls, quizzes and ask any questions for our presenters.
Recommended Setup
If you are joining us using a PC or Laptop, we recommend you split your screen between Collaborate Ultra and Mentimeter (see below). This will allow you to view and hear the session, as well as take part in any interactive elements through Mentimeter, which will allow you to ask questions and take part in any polls / quizzes throughout the sessions.
You may also want to view the session using Collaborate Ultra in full screen on your PC or Laptop, and access Mentimeter on your smartphone or tablet. This is absolutely fine and we recommend doing whatever works best for you and your circumstances.
If you have any questions about accessing the session, please do drop us an email ahead of your upcoming session at medicineandhealth@leeds.ac.uk.
